3 things 27-y/o could bring to Luton Town if signed from Championship rivals

on

Luton Town are keen to strengthen their side this January and the latest name to be linked with a move is Bristol City defender Bailey Wright.

According to the report from Football Insider, the Robins could be tempted to cash in on the 27-year-old now, rather than allow him to leave for nothing when his contract expires in the summer.

Wright is considerably down Johnson’s pecking order at Ashton Gate this season, making just three appearances, with fellow centre-backs Tomas Kalas, Ashley Williams, Nathan Baker and Taylor Moore all ahead of him at the moment.

He signed for the club from Preston North End back in the January transfer window of 2017 but has gone on to make just 83 first-team appearances in that time.

Here we take a look at THREE things he could bring to Kenilworth Road…

Experience

It is something that the Hatters have been accuse of lacking at times this season, with many winning positions being thrown away and points lost in the process.

So bringing in somebody with the experience of Wright would surely aid them in that department.

He will have experience of what it takes to grind out wins in the second tier, having played in it for three years now, something that Sonny Bradley and Matty Pearson do not have – as impressive as they are.

QUIZ: Can you remember Luton’s last 15 January deals?

Balance

In recent weeks, Jones has hinted at a desire to switch to a back three, in a bid to add a different dimension to his previously diamond-dominated set-up.

It has shown signs of promise but with an ageing Martin Cranie the third option at the moment, it is not something that has worked particularly well.

But as things stand, they only have three options. Bringing in Wright would help to add some real balance to proceedings, allowing Jones to rotate between defenders when necessary.

A point to prove

This could arguably be the most important thing that Wright could bring with him to Kenilworth Road.

So far his Championship career is yet to catch alight and there will be many thinking he simply is not cut out to shine in the division.

But you can bet that, should Wright get the move to Luton, that he will arrive intent on proving those at Preston and those at Bristol just what they have missed out on, and that could lead to some excellent performances.
