Next season can not come quickly enough for Villa fans after such disarray and despair in their latest Premier League campaign.

The former European champions are faced with the tricky task of escaping one of the most physical league's in the world at the first time of asking but were boosted with confidence after Roberto Di Matteo was announced as manager on the 2nd-of-June-2016.

The former Champions League winning manager joins a de-motivated squad in which he seeks to revamp bringing in his unique blueprints and style. Villa fans will be hoping that he can bring that same team spirit to his new club.

However Villa fans are well aware that they aren't out of the woods yet by any means necessary. The Tony Xia deal could still fall through plus there is a lot of deadwood that needs clearing out. Some stability is now needed which I believe starts by signing players with vast experience of Premier League and Championship football.

Aston Villa already have a suitable striking candidate in Rudy Gestede, who cut it very well at Blackburn before his move last Summer.

Gestede though will need support up front, as well as a replacement if he is injured, so here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Ryan Gaffney looks at THREE target-men who Aston Villa should look to sign...

Emmanuel Adebayor

Out of contract with Palace this summer, the Togo born striker offers experience playing at top clubs such as; Arsenal, Man City and even Tottenham.

A step down to the Championship could be something that would interest Adebayor as he was disappointing in the Premier League this year and doesn't look set for a new contract.

At 32 he could still offer some goals and  he could replicate some of his good times in the Premier League in the second tier with his strength and presence. On cheap wages it would be a signing to consider.

Tammy Abraham

The young Chelsea star is one of the many talented young prospects in Chelsea's youth team however he hasn't had the opportunity to shine in the in the football league because he has been so pivotal to Chelsea's youth squad.

The 18-year-old once even had a stand out season scoring 41 goals in all youth competitions. Chelsea look set to loan out the tall striker to clubs  so he would certainly be signing to consider for Villa.

The powerful 18-year-old could quite simply partner Gestede or even replace him as a sub being a more than adequate target-man replacement.

Marouane Chamakh

Like his counterpart Adebayor, who he accompanied and worked with at Crystal Palace, Chamakh looks set to leave Palace this Summer after spending 3 years with the South Londoners.

The Moroccan originally joined from Arsenal which came shortly after he finished his loan deal with West Ham. Chamakh has only scored a poor total of 7 goals for Palace in his 3 years at the club however the 32-year-old may need a step down to the lower tiers in order to boost his confidence.

Working under a manager with influence like Di Matteo could certainly be an important factor as to whether he would regain his scoring form however for a veteran such as Marouane he would need to adapt to the sheer physicality of the second tier.
