Sunderland have taken to life in League One relatively smoothly.

After a double relegation, the Black Cats could have been forgiven for thinking this season would be a slow burner.

It has turned out that Jack Ross’ men have had a blistering start to life in the third tier.

Two wins and a draw for their opening three games has seen them produce an unbeaten start in the league.

A Carabao Cup defeat to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday is the only negative result the team have had.

There will be harder tests throughout the season with every game posing its own set of questions that Sunderland will need to answer if they are to have a successful year.

No season is perfect, and there will be decisions Ross needs to make despite an unbeaten start to the League One campaign.

With that said, here are three issues that will be troubling the Sunderland boss and need to be looked at as a matter of urgency.

The defender has been told he can leave the club but is acting with the utmost professionalism having been a substitute on the opening day.

Bryan Oviedo has since started the last two league games and has contributed a total of three assists since the start of the year.

Jack Ross needs to decide if he is going to be offloaded him during this loan window due to his lofty wages.

Or decide if the financial risk is worth the shot at having arguably the league’s best left-back on board for a promotion push after three very impressive individual performances.

The striker who has scored three goals in three league games was offered a contract in April before a takeover, and he is still waiting to hear back from the club.

Maja has had an impressive start to the season, and you would imagine Jack Ross would be worried about the 19-year-old being put off by the amount of time he has waited.

A headache could be put to bed if the club offered him a contract and tied down the young striker’s long-term future to the club

Does Lee Cattermole have a future at the club, despite what manager Jack Ross has been saying about the midfielder?

The 30-year-old was linked with a move to Bordeaux, but that fell through after a disagreement in the wage structure of the deal.

With the addition of Max Power from Wigan, will Cattermole play much or will he be an expensive substitute or even ben omitted from the Matchday squad?

Either way, it is a situation that Ross needs to fix one way or another before the loan window closes.
