Josh Murphy has lately been proving his worth to Cardiff and he had an important part to play in their 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic at the weekend.

He fired in to level the scores just eight minutes into the game following Kieffer Moore's early strike for the Latics.

Moore slotted in a penalty on the stroke of half-time before a Kai Naismith own goal ten minutes into the second half saw Cardiff equalise for a second time during the game.

Murphy was in the right place at the right time to volley in on his right foot after a long throw from Will Vaulks reached the attacker near the penalty spot.

His strike was the only shot the winger had during the game and it proved to be a vital one come the end of the tie.

Being deployed in the left attacking midfield slot behind the striker, Murphy's job throughout the game was to try and run at the defence when opportunity allowed him to.

The winger completed three successful dribbles across the 90 minutes as he never seemed fazed to take a man on when flying down the wing.

Murphy found his path to goal blocked on a few occasions when he received the ball as Wigan set up quite defensively when out of possession.

He made eight passes throughout the encounter as he tried to shift the ball to his team-mates quickly and then receive the ball when he had more space to try and operate in.

The winger tried to look up and get crosses into the box when he was able to however he failed to complete a cross throughout the game with two failing to connect with a Cardiff man in the box.

He had clearly shown intent to try and get the ball into the box but his delivery was lacking in the final third against the Latics.

He proved to still be a nuisance on the ball though as he drew five fouls from Wigan players across the game as he looked to push his team forward when on the attack.

While his attacking performance was alright, he did his best while defending. The winger made one interception as he read the play well to get on the end of a loose Wigan pass and instantly turn defence into attack.
