Cardiff City moved into the top ten in the Championship table after their second 1-0 win in succession against promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

A solitary goal from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing was enough for The Bluebirds to seal the points at the City Ground, and increasing their unbeaten run under new manager Neil Harris to three games.

Lee Tomlin provided the crucial assist for Cardiff's goal, laying off Mendez-Laing to fire the ball in from yards out into the bottom right hand corner.

However, it was not just his work for the goal that was important for the team, as the 30-year-old also ran the hard yards that went unnoticed, and he is proving to be a key player for the Bluebirds at this present moment.

Here, we take a closer look at how Tomlin performed against Sabri Lamouchi's side on the weekend...

Tomlin has featured ten times in total this season for Cardiff in the Championship, starting the last two games under Neil Harris.

The stand-out statistic from his display at the weekend is the fact that he managed to win five offensive duels in attack against Forest, which enabled space to be created for Gary Madine and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

It should also be noted that Tomlin managed three successful dribbles during the ninety minutes, regularly drawing Nottingham Forest players out of position and laying the ball off to his striking partners.

The one such lay-off that counted was for Cardiff's goal, where Tomlin got the crucial assist. The playmaker received the ball just outside the penalty area, drawing two players towards him with the press while he took touches on the ball. He then released it to his left hand side to Mendez-Laing, who put the ball past Brice Samba with a curling finish.

Tomlin also had one shot on target during the game, and featured for the full length of the match - the first time that has happened this season, showing that his work-rate is impressing Neil Harris.

One statistic that Tomlin should look to improve on from his good performance at the weekend was his passing accuracy, which was at 55%.

Other than that, Tomlin has showed himself to be a key part of the Cardiff team, and should be looking to nail down a starting place in the No.10 role.
