After he was announced as the permanent head coach of Birmingham City on Wednesday, Birmingham Live claim that Pep Clotet's main priority in January will be to sign another forward.

The Blues sit 15th in the Sky Bet Championship table but find themselves only six points off the play-offs, so a top-six finish is not off the cards just yet.

Clotet's side have struggled to find the net on a regular basis this season, and have struggled to find goals from their attacking players since the departure of Che Adams to Southampton in the summer.

Lukas Jutkiewicz is their top goalscorer with five strikes to his name, with strike partner scoring just two goals since his arrival from Almeria in the summer.

If Blues are to challenge for a place in the play-offs, then their recruitment needs to be perfect in January - they need to find a striker who scores goals and can partner Jutkiewicz up top.

Those type of players come at a price, of course, so here, we take a look at three strikers Birmingham should look to target in January...

Ivan Toney

Toney has been in excellent form for Peterborough United this term, helping Posh fight for automatic promotion in League One.

The 23-year-old has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season - 12 of those strikes coming in the league- and he is currently the division's leading goalscorer along with teammate Mo Eisa.

Peterborough obviously won't let him leave on the cheap given that he still has two years left on his contract, but Blues definitely have the pulling power to attract him away from London Road.

He is a similar type of player to Adams, and he could fit in Blues' system really well indeed.

Matej Vydra

Vydra is a player who has already proved himself in the Championship before, but finds himself completely out of favour at Burnley.

The 27-year-old won the Championship golden boot in 2017/18 after scoring 22 goals in 44 games for Derby County, but has fallen massively out of favour since his move to Turf Moor.

The Czech Republic forward has made just four top-flight appearances for Sean Dyche's side this term, all of those coming from off the bench, and a move away in January could be on the cards.

He still has time to get back to his best and reignite his form at St. Andrew's.

Eddie Nketiah

This isn't too unrealistic at all, and if Arsenal do decide to act in January, then Birmingham need to be right at the front of the queue for Nketiah.

The 20-year-old has scored five goals since joining Leeds United on loan in the summer, but he is yet to make a single league start for Marcelo Bielsa's side this season.

Reports claim that Leeds are expecting Arsenal to recall Nketiah in January, with Bristol City believed to be the front-runners in the race to land his signature.

But if Blues are serious about challenging for promotion, then he should be on their radar incase Arsenal make a bold decision.
