Barnsley have recently confirmed that they have parted company with Daniel Stendel, in a short statement on the club's website.

It brings an end to a brief spell at Oakwell for the 45-year-old, who guided the Tykes to promotion into the Championship in his first season in charge last term.

Barnsley got off to the perfect start in the second-tier of English football as well, as they beat Fulham on the opening day of this year's league campaign.

But they haven't won a league game since, and Stendel's patience has clearly been tested during this tough spell in charge of the Tykes.

That poor run of form has seen them slip down the table, and the currently occupy a spot in the relegation zone heading into the international break.

We look at THREE managers that Barnsley should target as Stendel's replacement as soon as possible to avoid being relegated from the Championship this season.

Gary Rowett

Rowett has been out of work since he was sacked as Stoke City's boss earlier this season.

It was certainly a spell to forget for the 45-year-old, but he has shown that he is capable of taking a team forward in the Championship, having done it in a hugely successful time with Birmingham City.

Rowett has a point to prove in the Championship, and he'll surely be one of the names to be linked with the vacancy at Oakwell over the international break.

Gareth Ainsworth

Ainsworth is currently in charge of Wycombe Wanderers, and has been hugely impressive in his time with the club.

He has guided them to promotion into League One, and has shown that he is a manager that could make it to the very top if Wycombe's performances are anything to go by.

It would be a risk to appoint Ainsworth though, especially as he doesn't have any experience of managing in the Championship in his managerial career to date.

But sometimes you have to take a risk, and appointing Ainsworth would be worth it, as he could fire up an underperforming group of players currently with Barnsley.

Tony Pulis

Pulis is another experienced manager that is currently out of work, after being dismissed from his role in charge of Middlesbrough at the end of last year's league campaign.

Boro missed out on a top-six finish, which led to the club choosing not to extend Pulis' contract, in a move that didn't come as a surprise to many of the club's supporters.

Pulis' style of football might not be the most attractive, but he has shown that he can get results in the Championship, having guided Stoke City to promotion back in the 2007/08 season.

It would be somewhat of a coup for the Tykes to come to an agreement with Pulis in the coming weeks.
