Bolton Wanderers had a terrific season, finishing second in League One and returning to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Manager Phil Parkinson managed to assemble a side, that conceded very few goals, 36, and who knew where the back of the net was, as they managed to score 68 goals on their way to promotion.

Wanderers, had the best defensive record in the league and Phil Parkinson, will be hoping that his side continue to be solid at the back when in the Championship, but knows that they are going to have to add to their ranks all over the pitch to help them be competitive and ensure their first aim of staying up is met as quickly as possible.

With this is mind Bolton should look to add Blackpool full-back Kelvin Mellor, free agent Michael Kightly and Peterborough United's Marcus Maddison to their ranks ahead of the coming season.

Kelvin Mellor

Having joined Blackpool last summer, Mellor, helped the Seasiders to promotion from League Two this season, where they beat Exeter City in the Play-Off final at Wembley.

Mellor was also in the League Two Team of the Year this campaign and with his pace and strength and a promotion of his resume, it's clear to see why he was selected.

Michael Kightly

The winger could provide some useful experience in the Bolton ranks and having being released by Burnley he wouldn't command a transfer fee.

Kightly has played in the Premier League, with Stoke City and also has a lot of Football League experience having played for the likes of Watford and Wolves. Whilst at Wolves, he managed to help them get them promoted to the Premier League, scoring 8 goals before injury hampered his season, and was it again when he joined Burnley as he scored 5 goals in their promotion winning campaign.

Having two promotions on his record and having played in the Premier League, and also for other clubs in the Football League, Kightly, could prove to be a useful asset to have at the Macron Stadium.

Marcus Maddison

One of 11 transfer listed players at London Road this summer, Maddison is heading into the final year of his contract and because of this Peterborough make all players with his length of time left on their contract available for transfer.

Maddison described as "on his day, one of the best in this league, if not the best" by current Posh manager Grant McCann, shows just how good a player he really is, and given a run in the team he could prove to be a very good asset to have.

Maddison, can play just behind the striker or out wide, and this season he scored 9 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions for Peterborough showing that he has the ability to be lethal at the top end of the pitch.
