Sheffield Wednesday have had a very positive season.

After the investment was poured into the club in the summer months, the South Yorkshire club were able to invest, not only invest but invest wisely, with intelligent moves, such as the out of favour Barry Bannan and Fernando Forestieri.

With a big final push this weekend against seventh placed Cardiff City, these few players could be the catalyst for Wednesday, as they could solidify their chances of making the Premier League next season.

Newcastle on the other hand have been derived of anything special this year and, with a late season push under Rafa Benitez to stay in the top-flight, it may be all to late for the North East club.

The obvious choice some would say.

His goals and assists have been crucial to Wednesday's promotion drive this year. The excellent forward has terrorised defences in the Championship this season and, with 15 goals notched after a near £3 million transfer, Wednesday fans must think it has been a bargain.

He is versatile and an expert dribbler and never far from an element of controversy.

After picking up his share of yellow cards this season, including two sending-offs, the passion, drive and bite has been just what Wednesday need this season. His aggressive nature matches up with the physicality of the league, and is really something that has made him at home with the Owls fans.

This season, he has mainly featured as an attacking midfielder. The 26-year-old has been the star of the show as Wednesday have continued their rise to sixth place.

The Argentine understands the pressure of the league, as he was promoted with Watford last season. His attributes could fit perfectly with Newcastle, as his pacey, intense, intelligent characteristics make him perfect for any top-flight division.

Barry Bannan

The out-of-favour Scotsman is now a firm and loved favourite at Hillsborough.

After recently being named in the four best midfielders of the season, Bannan looks to cap off an impressive season by reaching the dizzy heights of the Premier League.

After having a superb season, Bannan has had a contract presented to him, after his first six months in the Championship have been such a success. The diminutive midfielder is now a popular figure in South Yorkshire for his passionate and adept performances, and a recall to the Scotland squad has cemented his season as he looks to strive on to the top division.

Bannan has lit up games with his performances and many have suggested he is playing below his level in the Championship. Fans are never shy to compliment the Scot after some stunning goals and expert assists.

When analysing an average Newcastle outfit with a lack of creativity, Bannan would be an idealistic fit for the Premier League.

Tom Lees

After some brilliant performances earlier on in the season, Lees has become a Wednesday favourite.

Newcastle have already swooped for the defender earlier on this season, but Wednesday rejected an enquiry about the Englishman.

Lees, a £350,000 signing from Yorkshire rivals Leeds 15 months ago, is now one of the most sought-after defenders outside the Premier League after a series of consistently high-quality performances.

His characteristics at this level are such high quality - his reading of the game is really superb. Alongside his organisational skills, he would fit any Championship side well, and would equip any side with high levels of experience.

Newcastle need organisation and experience at the back.

Yes Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor bring experience, but in my opinion lack quality and poor consistency which has followed them for numerous seasons now.

Lees would bring steel to the Toon back line and would be the ideal fit.
