New Sheffield Wednesday boss has vowed to give youth a chance at Hillsborough as he outlines his long-term plans with the club.

The ex-Leeds boss was named as Steve Bruce's permanent successor during the international break and he enjoyed the perfect start as Owls chief, guiding the side to a 2-0 win at Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield on Sunday.

That has lifted the mood of everyone connected to the club and Monk will hope he can continue that form in the short-term.

However, in the long-term, he explained that he wants to bring youngster through from the academy when speaking to the Sheffield Star, stating that it's an important part of his job.

Here we look at THREE current academy graduates who will be delighted by Monk's comments and will hope to force their way into the first-team in the future...

Conor Grant

The Ireland youth international is highly-rated by the Owls after joining a few years ago following a successful trial.

And, he has clearly impressed key figures this season, with the Sheffield Star revealing that he has been training with the first-team, whilst he also made the bench for the League Cup victory at Rotherham.

At 18-years-old, he has a lot of time to develop and the midfielder could force his way into the XI over the course of the season.

Alex Hunt

Another midfielder who will have hopes of breaking through this season is Alex Hunt.

Again, the U23 captain is highly-regarded by Wednesday, evident by the fact he signed a new two-year deal with the club yesterday.

The 19-year-old has been with the club since he was seven and even though there's a lot of competition in midfield, he has talent.

Preslav Borukov

The Bulgarian youth international came to the Championship side in 2016 from Levski Sofia and he has impressed with the Owls as part of their development teams.

He is a real physical player and is a constant threat in the box, whilst he can also link-play.

There are still aspects of his game that need to improve but that will come in time and he has the qualities that Monk likes in a striker.
