It's a new era for Sheffield Wednesday now, with Garry Monk preparing for his first game in charge against Huddersfield Town on Sunday.

The Owls were left in a very tricky position after Steve Bruce decided to leave for Newcastle midway through pre-season, leaving former player Lee Bullen to take over on a caretaker basis.

In fairness, the Scotsman did a good job and he returns to his coaching position having picked up nine points from six league games, with Wednesday 11th in the table.

Whilst Monk is going to take advice from Bullen having taken over, it's also a fresh start for the group.

Here we look at THREE players who have previously been on the fringes that will be hoping to grasp the chance to impress the new manager...

Joey Pelupessy

Wednesday have a few options in midfield and that has restricted Pelupessy to just one league appearance this season.

It seemed pretty clear under the old regime that he was going to struggle to get game time - and in truth, most fans might think that was the right call.

But, things change quickly in football and playing under Monk may help the ex-Heracles midfielder who will still feel he has a lot to offer.

Fernando Forestieri

Even though he is going to be banned for the next six games, the creative Forestieri will feel he can flourish under Monk unlike Bullen.

He was controversially left out of the defeat to Millwall earlier in the season for tactical reasons and played 90 minutes just once under the temporary boss.

Given his quality, it's a real surprise to see how underused he was. Moving forward, he could be a key player for Wednesday once again.

Sam Winnall

Sam Winnall

Like Pelupessy, Winnall has just one substitute appearance in the league to his name this season. However, it's understandable as there is a lot of competition for places at Hillsborough up top.

So, the striker will still have a battle to get in the XI but his work-rate and ability to press from the front may appeal to Monk.

It's now down to the ex-Barnsley man to impress in training and to try and take whatever chance may come his way.
