Brentford looked set to be challenging right at the top of the Championship table this season under Dean Smith.

The Bees were playing delightful football, with Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins forming the league's most lethal strike partnership as they shot to the top of the table.

But, then their leader and manager was taken from them.

With Steve Bruce's sacking at Aston Villa, they looked to the Bees' Villa supporting boss to take up the reigns and it was a chance Smith was not going to pass up.

They went on a run of five matches without a win as they plunged down the table, but the weekend showed that new boss, Thomas Frank, may be able to bring the attacking flair back to Griffin Park.

A 2-0 win against Millwall in which Sergi Canos shone alongside Watkins and Maupay reflected their early season form.

But, with the January transfer window approaching plans will be being made for every possible scenario, most probably in terms of hanging on to their current players.

Here are THREE that would be absolutely perfect for the London club...

Maupay has been the big emerging talent in the Championship this season.

The striker has 11 goals in the league already and will undoubtedly be catching the eye of plenty of clubs.

Hanging on to him is absolutely crucial for Frank.

Losing Ryan Woods in the summer was a blow, even if Brentford initially managed without him.

He was so consistent in midfield and another body needs to be added to that area.

Money is there to spend and it should be spent.

With Villa's current goalkeeping troubles it would not be a surprise to see Daniel Bentley the subject of bids from Smith's new employers.

The shot-stopper is one of the league's best and good goalkeepers are hard to come by.

He has been brilliant for the Bees and they must keep hold of him.
