Things are slowly beginning to come together for Dean Smith at Aston Villa this season as he attempts to turn around Steve Bruce's disastrous opening.

After winning the opening two matches of the season, Bruce won just one of his next nine matches in charge, plunging Villa down the table and leading to his sacking.

Smith has had a steady start, winning two and losing two, but the general style of the club's play has given the fans plenty of faith for the rest of the season.

Last Friday's 2-0 home win against Bolton was probably the club's best performance of the season so far, with talisman Jack Grealish finally playing to the best of his abilities, scoring one and setting up another.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Smith will no doubt be looking to bring in more players to further strengthen his side.

Here, then, are THREE scenarios that would make a perfect Aston Villa transfer window...

Orjan Nyland has been calamitous so far this season and a new goalkeeper will be high on Smith's list.

Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton would be an ideal signing and is very attainable after finding himself on the fringe at Turf Moor.

Villa have been linked with a January move for the Wednesday's star man and getting it over the line would be a real winter coup.

The thought of Jack Grealish and Bannan working in tandem is a terrifying one for the rest of the Championship.

After his performance at the weekend, there is likely to be plenty of buzz around Grealish once again.

If the 23-year-old keeps playing at his best until the end of the season then expect plenty of offers to come in despite him signing a new contract recently.

Keeping him should be one of Smith's top priorities.
