In one of the strangest and most bizarre transfer rumours this season, a Wigan attacking midfielder has sensationally been linked with a move to Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig.

Nick Powell has been the main attacking threat going forward for Wigan in recent seasons, and news of his potential transfer to Germany will come as a huge shock to supporters.

The 24-year-old is currently out injured, but is the club's top goalscorer this season with four goals, and he will be keen to build on that tally when he makes his return to action.

Powell fired Wigan to promotion last season as he netted 15 league goals, and he has been key to their positive start this season in the Championship.

Wigan will be keen to hold on to their star man, as he is likely to play a crucial part as they battle to stay in the Championship in this year's campaign.

But, why should Powell avoid a move to RB Leipzig?

We look at the THREE reasons here....

Powell has been in excellent form for Wigan in the last two seasons, and that has been largely down to him having regular game time each week.

Even though he has a tremendous amount of attacking talent, he simply wouldn't be anywhere near the starting XI for RB Leipzig.

If he wants to develop, then he will steer clear of a move to the German giants.

Powell has established himself as a favourite at Wigan in recent seasons, so if he was to make the move to Germany it wouldn't go down well with the Latics' supporters.

At the age of 24, he still has a lot of years to make a high-profile move, so Wigan's fanbase will be hoping he remains loyal for now.

The former Manchester United striker has made a name for himself in the last two seasons, but a move to RB Leipzig at this stage of his career would quite frankly be ridiculous.

As mentioned, he is still only 24, so he will have plenty of time to make a move like this.

Moving from the Championship to the Bundesliga is a huge risk at this stage of Powell's career.
