West Brom have reportedly triggered their option to extend Kyle Edwards' deal at the club by a further year according to the Express & Star.

Edwards has been hugely impressive since he broke into the first team last season, as the Baggies narrowly missed out on promotion into the Premier League after a defeat in the play-offs. His contract had been due to expire at the end of this year's campaign.

The midfielder has gone on to make 28 senior appearances for the Baggies in all competitions this term, as they edge closer to a timely promotion back into the top-flight under the guidance of Slaven Bilic.

West Brom are currently sat second in the Championship table, and are six points clear of third-placed Fulham, with just nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

However, that promotion bid has been put on hold for the time being, with recent off-the-field events calling an abrupt halt to fixtures across the country.

We take a look at THREE reasons why West Brom's reported decision to extend Edwards' contract with the club is the right call.

He's a player with a bright future ahead of him.

It's easy to forget that Edwards is still only 22-years-old, as he's not looked out of place at all in the West Brom first-team.

If the midfielder can continue to build on his impressive performances, then he definitely comes across as the sort of player that Bilic could build his future team around, regardless of which division they're playing their football in.

Bilic clearly rates Edwards highly.

Edwards has made 28 appearances for the West Brom first-team under the management of Slaven Bilic this term, which shows that he's rated highly by the former West Ham boss.

Bilic has hardly put a foot wrong in his time with the club, and it seems as though the Baggies boss will be keen to keep him in and around the squad for the foreseeable future.

They're not going to lose him for free in the summer.

Edwards was out-of-contract in the summer of 2020, so it's good to see the club taking up their option in extending his contract by a further year.

He's shown that he's more than good enough to be playing for the Baggies on a regular basis, and will be keen to further his development with them in the Premier League next season.

If he can continue to impress, then the Baggies will be keen to increase their asking price in the future.
