West Bromwich Albion have recently been linked with a loan move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, as per the Athletic.

The Baggies are on the verge of promotion to the Premier League after a very impressive campaign under Slaven Bilic, and the Croatian will already be identifying potential transfer targets ahead of the summer.

One player who Albion are said to be "big admirers" of is Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has thrived in the Championship away from Stamford Bridge on loan this season.

Do you know where these 18 ex-West Brom players are playing now?

Gallagher was a standout performer for Charlton Athletic in the first half of the campaign, and the Addicks have struggled to replace the 20-year-old since departing the Valley in January.

The midfielder has since established himself as a key player for Swansea City in the second half of the campaign, as Steve Cooper's side look to close a three-point gap between themselves and the play-offs.

The Athletic claim that Albion will look to sign Gallagher on loan should they win promotion to the Premier League this term, and will give the midfielder first-team football should he arrive.

Here, we take a look at three reasons why Gallagher would be a fantastic addition for West Brom...

Potential

Gallagher has been outstanding in the Championship this season and has been excellent in his first season away from Chelsea on loan.

He scored six goals and made four assists for Charlton from the heart of midfield, and has also hit the ground running in South Wales, chipping in with five assists for Swansea.

Six goals and nine assists is a very decent record for a player in his first season out on loan, and that will give him confidence as he looks to test himself in the top-flight.

A position they need to strengthen

Albion have a midfield blessed with talent, but you feel that they may need to strengthen that particular area of the pitch if they are to return to the Premier League.

Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers have forged a fantastic understanding and partnership in midfield and it will take a lot for them to be dropped.

But it's a team game, and do Albion have enough depth in the likes of Gareth Barry and Rekeem Harper to withstand life back in the top-flight?

Many would think not, and that's why they need to bring in a player with the quality Gallagher possesses.

Reputation

West Brom are building a really good reputation for themselves, in that they are the sort of club who can bring in young players on loan and turn them into better players.

Grady Diangana, Callum Robinson and Filip Krovinovic have all come up leaps and bounds since joining Albion on loan this season, and Diangana and Robinson in particular will return to their clubs with much more confidence.

Gallagher's next move is likely to be his final one before breaking into Frank Lampard's first-team at Chelsea, and Albion are definitely the club to join if he wants to progress and improve.

This could only bode well for West Brom in the future.
