Leaving top sides like Manchester United to rebuild your career elsewhere is often a situation faced by former stars, and this can be said no more than for Gabriel Obertan who is currently trying to get back on his feet at Wigan Athletic.

23rd in the Championship and wrestling to stay in the division, Wigan have been one of the sides trapped towards the bottom of the table.

They’ve not been at all woeful this campaign but have struggled to pick up points at home- arguably the biggest knack to staying in a division like the Championship.

But to the surprise of many supporters and neutrals alike, they brought in former Manchester United and Newcastle winger Gabriel Obertan in January, after the winger left Anzhi of the Russian League.

He’s played very little football over the past couple of months but against Birmingham City, he showed flashes of brilliance and a willingness to help them survive.
