Robbie Keane is set to become available in the summer after announcing his decision to leave the LA Galaxy, and plenty of teams in England and Scotland will be hoping to sign the Irish goal machine.

One club who will be looking for new strikers in January is Birmingham City, who could well do with adding some firepower to their squad to support the big presence of Clayton Donaldson.

Birmingham manager Gary Rowett is doing a tremendous job at St Andrews as he guides them towards the playoff places. Rowett though will know he needs new faces, and he might well see Robbie Keane as someone he can look to sign.

With thoughts of Keane moving back to England, we take a look at THREE reasons Robbie Keane would be perfect for Birmingham City...

Goals, goals, and more goals

You don't become your international teams record goalscorer if you do not have something about you, and Keane is quite simply a lethal finisher.

Keane has had an excellent career, and is one of few players to make the move to the MLS and be nothing but a success.

Should Birmingham want someone to simply put the ball in the back of the net, then Keane could well be their man.

Experience

Birmingham have a good habit of late of producing good quality young players, and someone like Keane arriving at the club could benefit all those young players at the club.

Keane has over 100 caps for Ireland and has played in Italy, America, and the Premier League in his career, all to good effect.

The investment in Keane is something which needs to be looked at not just for his goals and pitch time, but what he could bring to the club overall.

The missing key?

If there is one thing Birmingham do not do enough of it, it is score goals and kill games off.

This ultimately cost them in the run to the playoffs last season, but Keane is the sort of player who scores at crucial times, often turning draws into wins.

It is this sort of thing which can be of huge difference in the Championship. If Keane could come and even score just handful of crucial goals, he will have played enough of a part to warrant the no doubt high wages he would command.
