It's that time of year again when fans frantically refresh their social media feeds as they try and find out who their club is trying to bring before Wednesday's 11:30pm deadline.

Deadline day is a crazy time for Football League clubs as managers look to complete their squads in order to achieve, or better, their goals that season.

Rumours and speculation goes on all day and even though the deadline is actually at 11:30pm, clubs will inevitably continue announcing new signings or departures until the early hours of the morning.

Those who are looking for new additions will hope that their recruitment teams will be able to bring them the players that they desire so they can get them bedded in and ready for their next game.

While deadline day is important for most the managers in the English Football League, this one may actually have higher stakes than usual.

With that in mind, here are THREE reasons why this deadline day will be important for Football League clubs...

Clubs will be desperate to keep their stars

Because of their position in the football pyramid, Football League clubs are always at risk of losing their star players to clubs in higher divisions.

A number of managers in the Football League will be hoping that deadline day passes without any drama as they will desperate to keep their star players from the clutches of bigger clubs.

Some managers, maybe those in Leagues One and Two a little more, will be happy if they sign no one but manage to keep hold of their star striker.

Under-pressure managers can ease the burden

Despite the season being just five games in, some managers in the Football League are already under pressure and deadline day will be their last chance to bring in new players.

Managers such as Garry Monk and Owen Coyle have already under pressure at Leeds and Blackburn respectively and they hope that they can recruit more players to help ease the pressure on themselves.

For those bosses who are already looking over the shoulder, this deadline day could be hugely important for their futures.

No emergency loan window this time

In previous transfer windows, Football League managers have known that should they fail to sign their top target before the deadline passes, they could try to sign him in the emergency loan window instead.

However that has now been abolished, meaning that this will be the last chance for managers to add to their squads before the January transfer window opens.

So if a manager thinks he is a little short in one area of the pitch, he'll have to add now or risk being left short over the coming months.
