A run of one win in four games has seen Leeds United drop down to fifth in the Championship table and it has left some fans concerned.

Whilst Marcelo Bielsa is never going to lose his hero status in Yorkshire, some of his recent decisions have left the supporters baffled.

None more so than the call to leave Eddie Nketiah on the bench, with Patrick Bamford preferred in the lone striker role.

And, according to Football Insider, the Leeds boss has no plans to give Nketiah a first start of the season in the league against Birmingham this weekend.

They claim that the Argentinian also does not want to play the duo together, something that would require a tweak to the formation.

Given Bamford’s struggles, he is without a goal in six games, it is a very surprising decision and here we look at THREE reasons why it’s a bold call that could backfire…

It heaps more pressure on Bamford

As mentioned, the current number nine is not firing right now and the fans are understandably growing increasingly frustrated.

Whilst it’s not his fault that he is always selected, Bamford will be aware of all the talk surrounding his place in the XI and even though it’s a good show of faith from Bielsa, it actually increases the pressure on the player.

Taking him away from the spotlight for a few games could actually benefit the four-goal striker moving forward.

Nketiah is ready to start

This is also potentially the wrong call from Bielsa because he has a quality replacement to step in for Bamford in Nketiah.

The England U21 international has scored twice in the league this season, he has netted in the cup and he is impressing for Aidy Boothroyd’s side.

Quite simply, he warrants a start.

Arsenal may recall the striker

Bielsa should never make his decision based on outside influences but there are reports emerging that Arsenal are considering recalling Nketiah due to his lack of minutes.

That appears to be a very real possibility and you could understand why the Gunners are thinking about it.

So, if Leeds want to keep the striker over the course of the season, which they will, then he needs to start playing.
