3 reasons why Sunderland should be hopeful of concluding £2m deal for Premier League man

With the summer transfer window now open it means that Sunderland could be about to step up their efforts in the transfer market.

Football Insider are reporting that Wolves are open to letting Dion Sanderson leave the club on a permanent deal over the summer amid interest from the Black Cats.

The 21-year-old showed his quality during a successful loan spell at the Stadium Of Light this term in which he established himself as a key player under head coach Lee Johnson.

It’s claimed that a deal could cost upwards of £2million to be completed but here are three reasons why Sunderland can be hopeful of striking a deal.

A wealthy owner

Kyril-Louis Dreyfus is preparing for his first summer in charge of Sunderland, and he will surely be looking to put his hand in his pocket.

The French billionaire is one of the richest owners in England and so will be looking to stretch the budget as much as possible in order to help the club to improve.

Dion Sanderson will be an expensive deal and League One does have some budget restrictions, but if a £2m fee is affordable for anyone in the third tier, it’s Sunderland.

What year were Sunderland formed?

An enjoyable loan spell

Dion Sanderson really enjoyed his time with Sunderland.

While he didn’t get to play in front of the fans it was clear that supporters were a big fan of his and that was reciprocated by the 21-year-old in his 27 appearances for the club.

To play in front of a packed Stadium Of Light is something special and perhaps that could be enough to tempt him back to Wearside once more.

A manager who knows how to get the best from him

It’s so important to have a boss that believes in you, and Lee Johnson certainly does that.

First team opportunities were hard to come by for Dion Sanderson under Phil Parkinson but as soon as Johnson took over we saw Sunderland get the very best from Dion Sanderson.

Other clubs may be interested in the player but based on last term it’s clear that Johnson knows how to get Sanderson firing and that could be key.
