Paul Robinson has urged Leeds United in the direction of Teemu Pukki if they are promoted to the Premier League.
Leeds currently sit top of the Championship table and look on course for promotion, whilst Norwich City sit bottom of the Premier League, with Pukki’s stay in the top-flight looking like coming to an end after just a single season.
In the view of former Leeds goalkeeper, Robinson, Marcelo Bielsa’s side should be moving for Pukki if that scenario does play out.
Robinson told MOT Leeds News: “I think Leeds will look at the teams coming down from the Premier League if they get promoted.
“Teemu Pukki would be an outstanding signing for Leeds. His predatory instincts around the box, his work-rate is second to none, you see that at Norwich. He’s got 11 goals in a team that are looking like they’re going to get relegated from the Premier League.
QUIZ: Leeds United through the decade – How much do you remember about the 2018/19 season?
“He’s developed as a player in the last two seasons. I just think the way Bielsa plays with that lone striker up front, he’d fit in perfectly, his work rate would work brilliantly with the way Bielsa plays and what he demands from his players.
“He’d bring that goal-scoring instinct which Leeds have lacked. They need that person in the box who can drag defenders around and finish and I think he’d be a really, really good acquisition for Leeds in the Premier League.”
With this transfer suggestion in mind, we take a look at THREE reasons why it makes complete sense…
When it comes to any transfer, the initial place to start is the player’s ability.
Pukki is clearly good enough for the English game and would meet the requirements for Leeds.
In 71 league appearances since arriving at Carrow Road, Pukki has an outstanding 40 goals.
A strike rate that can’t be ignored.
Pukki might be 30, but his style of play would suit Leeds down to the ground.
He plays as a lone striker, works hard for the team and is a lethal finisher.
Patrick Bamford currently leads the line for Leeds, and whilst he can hold the ball up and play up top alone, whilst putting in an incredible shift for the team, he does struggle in-front of goal.
Pukki equals his traits and betters them with his goalscoring ability.
A taste of the Premier League
Were Leeds to win promotion, they would need a striker ready to hit the ground running in the Premier League.
Pukki has struck 11 goals in a side that don’t create as much as Leeds, so putting him in-front of Bielsa’s midfield is a recipe for success.
He’s Premier League quality and potentially available – it makes sense for Leeds to move for him.
