Nathan Jones has wasted no time in reshaping his Stoke City squad ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, with the Potters completing six signings in the space of only two days.

The Staffordshire club endured a tough season last time out - a campaign that promised so much delivered so little, with their big-money summer signings failing to make any sort of impact whatsoever.

Jones will know that he has to get the balance right this summer, he definitely needs to bring in new faces, but there needs to be some real logic behind it, and things look to have got off to a solid start.

On Tuesday, they announced the signings of Liam Lindsay, Adam Davies, Jordan Cousins, Nick Powell and Lee Gregory, with former Burnley full-back Stephen Ward being confirmed on Wednesday.

The beginning of the new season is still quite far away, but here, we take a look at three reasons as to why Stoke are certainly looking like the team to watch ahead of the 2019/20 campaign...

Solid defence

Defensively, Jones definitely had to bolster his options, with the likes of Ryan Shawcross and Ashley Williams all flattering to deceive last term.

Jones brought in Danny Batth from Wolves last January, and the experienced, commanding defender has failed to put a foot wrong for the Potters as of yet, and the club have now added Lindsay to their ranks.

The Scot was easily one of, if not the best defender in League One last term, and helped Barnsley concede the fewest amount of goals in the division alongside Ethan Pinnock.

He is a young, talented defender, and the blend of experience and potential could really work wonders here.

Attacking firepower

Having spent big on the likes of Benik Afobe and Sam Vokes last season, you could argue that the attacking line wasn't really an area in which Jones had to strengthen, but the signing of Lee Gregory on a free transfer is an opportunity that simply had to be taken.

In each of his last four seasons for Millwall, the experienced front-man has hit double figures at the very least, scoring 13 goals and producing seven assists for the Lions last season.

He scores goals in the Championship, and adding to what is already a very dangerous front-line is a massive boost going into the new season.

Balanced midfield

Midfield was a hugely important position for Jones when he managed Luton - his 4-3-1-2 formation put emphasis on the three central midfielders, whilst also playing an attacking midfield behind the strikers.

To sign Nick Powell on a free transfer is a massive coup - he is one of the best playmakers in the Championship, and will provide them with real creativity going forward.

But bringing in a battling, tenacious midfielder such as Jordan Cousins definitely compliments that, and a potential midfield three of Peter Etebo, Joe Allen and Jordan Cousins is a tantalising thought for sure.
