Sheffield Wednesday made it consecutive wins in the Championship as they beat Yorkshire rivals Barnsley 2-0 at Hillsborough.

The Owls are still without a permanent boss after Steve Bruce left for Newcastle, with former player Lee Bullen taking over on a temporary basis after his exit.

And, it’s been a case of so far, so good, with the 48-year-old proving he is more than capable of stepping up if needed – which is something he wants to do as well.

Yet, no decision has been made about Bruce’s long-term successor from Dejphon Chansiri.

Here we look at THREE reasons why he simply has to give Bullen the job though…

He has got results

Ultimately, football is a results based business and any manager is defined by how his team does.

On that front, there can be no complaints about Bullen. Wednesday have picked up two wins from two and they sit top of the Championship at this very early stage.

He couldn’t have done any more.

The players clearly respect him

Following on from that, it’s clear that he has the respect of the players, which is an important factor.

The way the dressing room feels towards a manager can have a significant impact on how they do and there’s no way the Owls would be picking up results like this if the players didn’t enjoy working under Bullen.

They are behind his methods and would surely welcome his appointment on a long-term basis.

He has shown he is tactically capable

A criticism of Bullen has been about how he would cope tactically.

However, he proved against Barnsley that he knows what he is doing. The Tykes absolutely dominated promotion favourites Fulham on the opening day but they weren’t allowed to get into their rhythm at Hillsborough.

Wednesday played on the front foot and they executed Bullen’s game plan perfectly which helped them pick up a deserved three points.
