Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Adam Reach is a player in demand.

Indeed, the 25-year-old continues to be strongly linked with a move away from Wednesday, who signed him from Middlesbrough in 2016.

Reach has only missed one Championship match this season and played the full 90 minutes of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Hillsborough.

The Owls face a tough task to keep hold of Reach and with that in mind, we have taken a look at three reasons why Wednesday must do everything they can to keep hold of the 6ft 1in ace.

He brings goals and assists

This season, Reach has scored six times and contributed three assists in 27 Championship appearances for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, he has 14 goals and 19 assists for the club in all competitions since arriving from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2016.

Midfielders who provide goals and assists are not exactly easy to find - particularly at Championship level - which is the main reason why Wednesday must fight to keep hold of Reach.

He’s only going to get better

Reach will not turn 26 until next month. He has an incredible amount of football ahead of him, but has already picked up a lot of experience.

Indeed, the former England Under-20 international has already made more than 200 Championship appearances and also has experience of League One.

Reach will feel that he deserves his shot at the Premier League, but Wednesday are currently 11 points off the playoffs in the Championship.

It sends out the wrong message to the fans

Let’s be honest, Wednesday are a massive football club. This is not a small Championship team battling to keep hold of a star figure on small wages.

Saturday’s 1-0 win over Wigan was huge and a push for the playoffs this season is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Selling Reach at this stage would send out completely the wrong message and lead the supporters to question the club’s ambitions moving forward.
