After a slow start to the window, Sheffield Wednesday have enjoyed a productive week with Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Lewis Wing joining the club.

Pleasingly for Owls supporters, it appears there's much more to come, with the Sheffield Star claiming that winger Marvin Johnson is a target for the Yorkshire outfit.

The 30-year-old is available on a free transfer after leaving Middlesbrough in the summer and it appears his next destination could be Hillsborough.

Whilst Johnson didn't always convince at Boro, we outline THREE reasons why he would be a real coup for Darren Moore as he looks to build a team that can win promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt...

He should star in League One

Firstly, Johnson is a player who has starred in League One previously, having enjoyed a productive 16/17 campaign with Oxford.

Since then, the wide man has gone on to play over 100 games in the Championship. Therefore, he is a player that should still be able to make a big impact in the third tier and he would add a lot to the Wednesday squad.

He brings pace to the team

Wednesday's major issues last season were a lack of goals and whilst Johnson's record suggests he won't help out significantly on that front, he will ensure they have another threat in the final third.

At his best, the left-footer is a direct player who looks to beat his man at every opportunity and get the ball in the box. He should give the team a creative outlet down the flank and his pace will be very welcome.

Experience

Finally, Wednesday would be getting a player that is at a good age and ready to make an instant impact.

It's obviously important to look to the future but the Owls need to get out of this division as soon as possible, so they need players who can come into the XI and offer something straight away, which Johnson should be able to do as he is experienced and knows what's required in League One.
