The January transfer window is almost upon us and for Sheffield Wednesday it's time to take stock of where they need to strengthen.

A positive run of form has seen the Owls move up to fifth in the Championship, meaning that they're firmly on course to challenge for a spot in the top six.

Of course things can change quickly in this league, meaning that it's essential that Garry Monk's side are suitably prepared for the second half of the season.

Reports from Wales Online have suggested that Sheffield Wednesday are one of the clubs interested in Rhian Brewster.

The Liverpool starlet is thought to be available on loan in the January window, with Swansea City, Leeds United, Preston North End and Premier League side Crystal Palace all said to be keen.

But could the 19-year-old really be heading to Hillsborough? Here's why a move could be a non-starter.

Finances are tight

A deal for Rhian Brewster won't be cheap.

While any deal would be a loan, it would still likely include a significant loan fee as well as the bulk of his Premier League level wages.

Given the Owls' current financial situation they may decide to look at more prudent options.

A plethora of attacking options

While a new signing is always nice to have, it's worth remember the number of options at Garry Monk's disposal.

Fernando Forestieri, Steven Fletcher, Jordan Rhodes and Atdhe Nuhiu are just four of the options in Wednesday's attack, meaning that a move for the Liverpool man would lead to a somewhat bloated squad.

Moving any of those players on could be difficult so a move for Brewster could be unlikely.

Plenty of competition

The biggest factor in a move would be the amount of competition for the striker.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly among five teams who are tracking the Liverpool starlet meaning that it will be quite an achievement to secure his talents.

This shouldn't put the Owls off making a move, but perhaps adds a sense of realism over whether a move would be plausible.
