Derby County have had a mixed first season under Phillip Cocu, although the team have been much improved over the past few months.
Despite that, it’s clear that new signings will be needed in the summer and one man who has been linked with a switch to Pride Park is Burnley keeper Joe Hart.
Whilst they face competition from Besiktas for the stopper, staying in this country may be Hart’s preference and here we outline THREE reasons why signing the 33-year-old is a no-brainer…
They need a keeper
It’s fair to say that the number one position has been problematic for Cocu this season.
Kelle Roos was seriously struggling at the start of the season, with the experienced Ben Hamer replacing him earlier in the season.
Whilst he has done pretty well, Hart would be a clear upgrade and could shine in the Championship.
He will bring high-level experience
The impact Wayne Rooney has had on the Derby side since joining has been clear to see, with the team not just benefiting from his performances on the pitch.
Having players who have won so much is a real boost to the group, particularly the younger players, and with Hart boasting a Premier League winners medal and having featured in the Champions League and the World Cup, he could help a lot.
He is available on a free
Even though he will command a big salary, the fact Hart is available on a free should appeal to Derby.
It saves on a transfer fee and he is readily available. There would be no drawn out negotiations with a buying club or waiting on other deals before this one can go through. If the interest is genuine, it could be sorted swiftly, ensuring the keeper can link up with his new teammates for pre-season, whenever that may be.
