Norwich City have been recently linked with the signing of Brentford's Scott Hogan, for a reported fee of £8 million in January.

The 24-year old, who arrived from Rochdale, is the Championship's second highest goalscorer this term with 11 goals, behind Newcastle's Dwight Gayle.

The Canaries, however, have endured a torrid time of late, failing to find a win in their last 6 league games, despite topping the table in the first couple of months of the campaign.

Alex Neil's men now sit 8th in the league table, with 8 victories, 3 draws, and 7 defeats, and find themselves just 2 points off the automatic promotion places.

Here, FLW writer George Harbey identifies THREE reasons why Norwich City NEED to splash the cash on Scott Hogan in January, in order to reignite a promotion push....

He is prolific in the Championship

Upon his arrival in the 2014/15 campaign, Hogan suffered an injury that set him back for the duration of the season.

Furthermore, he then sustained another injury, this time in his ankle, that saw him miss 10 months of the 2015/16 campaign.

However he returned in fabulous style, netting 7 goals in 7 games on his return from injury, and has then gone on to net 11 times in 18 games this season.

18 league goals in 25 league games isn't a bad return at all for a striker as injury-stricken as Hogan, and his goalscoring form is one of the reasons why Neil should definitely look to sign him.

Norwich lack a prolific goalscorer

Despite scoring 29 times in the league this season, the Canaries lack a prolific forward almost guaranteed to score each and every game.

Cameron Jerome is their top scorer so far this term with 6 goals, which for a team who want to push for automatic promotion, just isn't good enough.

And the likes of Kyle Lafferty, Nelson Oliveira and Steven Naismith all haven't performed as well as expected this term, and after missing out on Britt Assombalonga, Nakhi Wells and Ross McCormack in the summer, Neil CANNOT afford to miss out on Hogan.

Hogan still has a lot to prove

If injuries stayed amiss, then some would argue that Hogan could have reached 40 goals already for Brentford in his 3 seasons with the club.

This is undoubtedly Premier League form, which indicates that the 24-year old definitely has the potential to go further in his career.

He will no doubt be frustrated with this time spent on the sidelines, but he still has a lot to prove in his career, and could be one to watch out for in the next few years...
