Keiren Westwood is a name that seems to have dropped off the football radar this season, until the last couple of days.

The 34-year-old has been frozen out at Sheffield Wednesday, getting nowhere near the first team under manager Jos Luhukay. However, in the last couple of days he's suddenly back in the limelight.

He got a run out against Crewe Under 23s, having been forced to train with them alongside former first-teamer Sam Hutchinson. Both have been shunned by Luhukay, despite the startling loss of form in recent weeks.

The appearances can only mean two things, either he's on his way back or he's on his way out. There's been lots of speculation that he may be on his way, but it could be that Luhukay wants him to get some match fitness ahead of a sensational recall.

It doesn't seem likely though.

Instead, there's only one thing many fans will think it means, which is why we look at three reasons why they'll be worried after this latest development.

It's clearly a precursor to him leaving. By playing him they're announcing his fitness and showing that he can pull on a pair of gloves and keep goal.

Wednesday fans will be worried that a quality player is on his way.

The worry is their current keepers are not entirely up to the task. If they sell Westwood, who do they turn to when the manager finally realises?

Or, if Luhukay is sacked, what option does it leave the club with?

There's the financial worry too. If, as the reports suggest, he's being lined up for a free transfer, what does that suggest about the club's financial plight?

Is it a case of trimming the wage bill because there's more trouble ahead? Worrying times indeed.
