Paul Clement is rightfully coming under some intense scrutiny as Reading manager and the club are reportedly already lining up his successor.

Former Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is the man they are after, according to the latest reports from the Daily Mail.

Carvalhal has been out of work since leaving Swansea City when they were relegated to the Championship in the summer, so his potential arrival would come as a surprise to many fans. The 52-year-old will be keen to reignite his managerial career after a disappointing couple of years.

There was an interesting development at Reading yesterday as Ron Gourlay left his role as Chief Executive of the club, much to the delight of Reading fans, who held him largely accountable for the recent demise of the club.

But, Clement could be next to depart in the near future, especially if he can't get them out of this dismal start to the season.

We look at THREE reasons why Carvalhal would be an excellent appoint for the Royals .

Find out what those reasons are here...

Carvalhal does have a good amount of experience in the Championship as he was manager of Sheffield Wednesday for a number of seasons.

He led the Owls to the play-offs in consecutive years, only for his squad to fall agonisingly short of a top-flight return.

If he can reignite the fight in this current Reading squad then his appointment could be potentially season defining for the Royals.

This group of Reading players certainly have the ability to be challenging for a play-off place, but something evidently isn't working this season.

A large number of the current playing squad were part of the team that were narrowly defeated at Wembley in the play-off final a couple of seasons ago.

Carvalhal could be the man to help drive this team up the league table and help them rediscover their full potential.

Paul Clement's statistic as Reading manager speak for themselves - it's grim reading.

Clement has a win percentage of just 26% since taking charge of the Berkshire-based side, with some fans still amazed as to how he is still manager of the club.

Any other option would surely be worth a shot after such an uninspiring start to the season for the Royals.
