With the dust having now settled from what was a truly dismal 2018/19 campaign for Queens Park Rangers, the club are now heading into a new dawn under the guidance of Mark Warburton.

Despite having only taken over the reins in May, the 56-year-old has already started to put his own stamp on the Hoops' squad by bringing in a number of fresh faces this summer.

Although Warburton may not be finished just yet in the transfer window, the way that he has conducted his business so far should be really encouraging for the Loftus Road faithful.

Whereas it would be naive to suggest that the R's will be amongst the favourites to secure promotion from the Championship, there is no reason why the cannot better the 19th place finish they achieved last season next year.

Keeping this in mind, here are three reasons why we think the club's supporters should have some cautious optimism about the upcoming campaign...

The Hoops could have a gem on their hands in the form of midfielder Matt Smith

One of the most promising young talents to emerge from Manchester City's academy in recent years, Matt Smith will be looking to create a name for himself over the next 10 months for the Hoops having joined the club earlier this week.

A regular whilst on loan at FC Twente last season, the midfielder helped the Dutch side secure promotion to the Eredivisie by making 34 appearances.

If he can replicate the form which saw him shine for the Tukkers at Loftus Road during the upcoming campaign, he could quite easily become a fan favourite.

Warburton knows exactly what it takes to succeed in the second-tier

Although Warburton's most recent spell in the Championship ended with him rather harshly being given his marching orders by Nottingham Forest, he could turn out to be the perfect man for the Hoops if his previous escapades at Brentford are anything to go by.

Whilst in charge of the Bees, he secured promotion to the second-tier in 2014 before guiding them to the play-off semi-finals a year later.

By channelling all the things that he learnt from this particular campaign, Warburton will be hoping that he can provide the club's supporters with some real moments to cherish next season.

The R's have taken crucial steps already to solve their defensive issues

Considering the fact that the R's conceded a whopping total of 71 goals in 46 games last season and kept just 14 clean sheets, it was obvious that they needed to bring in some defensive reinforcements this summer.

Therefore, by signing Yoann Barbet, Lee Wallace and Dominic Ball, Warburton has gone some way to solving this issue as all three of these players have a wealth of experience and thus will be confident of stepping up to the mark for the Hoops in the Championship.
