Mbaye Diagne has recently fuelled speculation linking the striker with a move to Nottingham Forest ahead of next season.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the City Ground of late, with his future at current club Galatasaray up in the air.

Diagne scored 30 goals in the Turkish Super League last season and ended up as the division's leading goalscorer, but the arrival of Radamel Falcao saw him join Club Brugge on loan in the summer.

Since then, the Senegalese forward has scored four goals in six league games for the Belgian side and has also featured in the UEFA Champions League.

But recently taking to Instagram, Diagne has dropped a huge hunt on his future, posting a picture attached with a farewell message and a Forest badge in the centre of the image.

This has caused plenty of interest on social media, and it could suggest that a deal could be set to happen after potential work behind-the-scenes.

Here, we take a look at why the arrival of Diagne would be perfect for Forest...

Goalscorer

It's fair to say that Diagne has scored goals wherever he's been.

The striker netted 11 goals in 10 matches on loan in Hungary in 2015/16, and seven goals in 11 games on loan in Belgium in 2014, so he clearly doesn't take time to adapt.

It came as a major surprise when he left Gala in the summer after scoring so many goals in the Turkish league last term, but despite not playing too much for Brugge, his record in front of goal has been impressive.

Cover for Grabban

Lewis Grabban has been a key part in Forest's promotion push this term, scoring 17 goals and looking set to be the Reds' top goalscorer for the second season running.

But the Reds need backup for the experienced forward, who is now approaching the age of 33 years old.

Tyler Walker has been slightly hit and miss since returning on loan from Lincoln City, whilst Nuno da Costa has been injured ever since his move from Strasbourg in January.

Fan reaction

Forest fans understand that a new striker is needed, and bringing in someone of Diagne's goalscoring prowess would be a big statement of intent.

It remains to be seen how the 2019/20 campaign will end, if at all, but the arrival of Diagne would definitely receive a positive reaction amongst fans, and it could give them a real boost in the race for promotion.
