Matt Smith is not having the best of times at present in west London.

The Queens Park Rangers striker expressed his frustration at his current role at Loftus Road when speaking to West London Sport after last Saturday’s defeat to Preston North End.

The 29-year-old was a second-half substitute in the 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Alex Neil’s men.

He added a consolation for the Hoops who were 3-0 down before he notched his first goal of the campaign on what was the 21st introduction from the bench, starting just twice in 24 league appearances.

Smith has been a bit part player this year having dropped behind loan pair Nahki Wells and Tomer Hemed as well as young Ebere Eze for a place leading the line of Steve McClaren’s outfit.

The transfer window remains open, and there could well be an opportunity to possibly leave the club to get more consistent game time.

One club that may look to move for the striker is Millwall.

Neil Harris is after another striking option with the news Tom Elliott is out for a while with a dislocated shoulder.

And Smith is the archetypal style of player that the Lions’ boss would be interested in signing.

With that said, here are THREE reasons why QPR’s Smith would be the perfect addition to The Den this January transfer window.

Smith wants to play more, Millwall need a striker

Millwall are in the market for a striker with Tom Elliott out for a while and Steve Morison out of contract in the summer.

But for now, the void left by Elliott needs to be filled.

Tom Bradshaw is another out for the season, but with Aiden O’Brien and Fred Onyedinma deputies to his place alongside Lee Gregory, it is the target man role that needs to be filled.

Smith is a player that the Lions have tried to sign in previous seasons and now could be the right man at the right time to move to the south east of London.

Fits the Millwall mould

Smith fits the mould of a Millwall player, plain and simple.

He is a striker that is the build, and temperament that the Lions look to have in their side.

Morison and Elliott are the two at the moment, and Smith would be a player that would instantly come into the side to be the man to win the first balls and get the Lions up the pitch.

His tall frame and physical strength make him the quintessential Millwall player that would be the perfect fit to replace Elliott, at least in the short-term.

Neil Harris’ knack of getting players going

Neil Harris seems to get the best out of players that come on loan to the club.

He did so with Ben Marshall last season before his move to Norwich ahead of a return to The Den this year having failed to impress at Carrow Road.

George Saville and Jed Wallace, are two other players who performed well and given consistent game time before permanent signings – impressing throughout separate loan spells.

Smith could be another to benefit from Harris’ man management and opportunities given should he come to the club on a temporary basis.
