What seemed to be a promising season for Nottingham Forest has quickly turn sour, after a turbulent second half of the campaign.

After a summer of serious spending, the Reds looked to be on the up under Aitor Karanka, with the East Midlands club sitting within touching distance of the play-off spots at the turn of the year.

But after failing to meet expectations of the board following a huge summer spending spree, Karanka was quickly gone - a departure that certainly shocked and divided the City Ground faithful.

Plenty of names were linked with the role at the City Ground, with Slavisa Jokanovic looking like he would become the new man in charge on Trentside - but out came former player Martin O'Neill from nowhere.

The 66-year old, regarded as a legend in those parts, took the reins of the club he knows incredibly well, but it has failed to work out since. After a 2-1 away defeat to Rotherham United at the weekend, their play-off hopes look over.

Plenty of fans are losing patience with the Irishman, questioning his tactics and team selections on a weekly basis, and it makes you wonder what they could have achived if Jokanovic was hired instead.

Here, we take a look at three reasons why Forest should look to sack O'Neill and replace him with Jokanovic in the summer...

Things are starting to turn toxic at the club

As weeks go by, more and more Forest fans are beginning to lose patience with O'Neill, and that number will keep on increasing if things don't change.

Their play-off hopes look dead and buried, their players have seemingly lost all confidence, and the managerial appointment thus far has turned out to be a failure.

It would be sad to see a once club legend be hounded out by supporters, but things have got to change.

Jokanovic's style of football would suit them to a tee

A lot is said about O'Neill's style of football being too one-dimensional and direct, which is chalk and cheese compared to how Karanka wanted his players to play.

Jokanovic would be a perfect fit for Forest - his Fulham side were known for playing some fantastic football last season, similar to how the likes of Norwich and Leeds play this season.

He would get the best out of the likes of Joao Carvalho and Joe Lolley, and he would be a shrewd appointment.

He has experience of winning promotion from this league

Times have changed in football compared to that of 10 or 20 years ago.

There is no doubting that Martin O'Neill is a very good, experienced manager, but the Championship has changed and teams are emerging with fresh, new ideas.

Jokanovic knows this league inside and out compared to O'Neill, having won promotion from this level with Watford and more recently Fulham.

His tactics and ideas are well up to scratch compared to others, and he is easily one of the best managers out there at this level.
