Leeds United will be hoping they can make a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League this season under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.

If they are to win promotion, then it's likely that some players could be heading for the Elland Road exit door, as the Leeds boss plans for life in the top-flight.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds man Noel Whelan predicted that Will Huffer has played his last game for the club, with his contract set to expire in the summer.

"I think he has played his last game for Leeds.

"It looks like we are going to sign Meslier, we have still got Kiko Casilla and I think we need another experienced goalkeeper behind us – that is a must if we are in the Premier League. Key positions need key players."

We look at THREE reasons why Whelan's transfer prediction on Huffer's future at the club is likely to come true.

He's well down the pecking order.

Huffer did feature briefly for Leeds United during a goalkeeping crisis last season, but hasn't made much of a chance since.

He now finds himself behind Kiko Casilla, Illan Meslier and Elia Caprile in the pecking order in Marcelo Bielsa's plans this season, and he'll know that his first-team opportunities are going to be limited, especially if Leeds are playing their football in the Premier League next season.

He needs regular minutes at his age.

At the age of 21, Huffer doesn't have much experience in senior football, with just a handful of appearances to his name in the various loan spells he's had in his career to date.

For any young player to further their development, they need regular game time, which he simply isn't going to be getting with Leeds United anytime soon.

A summer departure for the shot-stopper is likely to be the best outcome for both parties involved.

Leeds need to clear out the 'deadwood'.

If Leeds are to win promotion into the Premier League, then Marcelo Bielsa will have to clear out the 'deadwood' in his squad before the new season gets underway.

Unfortunately for Huffer, he falls into that category at the moment. The likes of Kiko Casilla (pictured above) and Illan Meslier are already ahead of him in the pecking order, which surely throws his future with the Yorkshire-based club into doubt.

Leeds need to trim the wage bill in the squad to make room for summer signings, and it certainly wouldn't come as a surprise to see Huffer leave the club when his contract reaches a conclusion at the end of this season.
