Cheick Tiote joined Newcastle United in the summer of 2010 from Dutch outfit FC Twente.

His debut came in a game at Goodison Park against Everton, and every pass he made during that game was successful .

The defensive midfielder received his first sending off for the Magpies in the FA Cup third round against Sky Bet League Two side Stevenage and was given a three match suspension as a result.

However, on his return scored the equaliser in a 4-4 draw at home to Arsenal.

In February 2011, Tiote signed a new deal at St James' Park which will keep him in the north-east until next summer.

During his six years playing for Newcastle United the 30-year-old has played on over 150 occasions and his only goal was that against the Gunners.

Despite his long association with the club, Cheick Tiote has struggled to get into Rafa Benitez's side since the Spaniard's arrival and that looks set to continue.

Here are my THREE reasons as to why Newcastle need to axe Tiote as soon as possible....

The wages

Tiote's new six-year contract which he signed in 2011, meant he'd become one of the highest earners at St James' Park.

Although Newcastle went wild during the summer with their transfer spending, bringing in over twelve new players to boost their hopes of an instant return to the top-flight, the club actually made profit from their sales.

For me, there is no point for the Geordies to be paying something like £80,000 per week to a player not getting any minutes on the pitch at all.

It would not surprise me if he was earning more than the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum and Andros Townsend, before they moved to Premier League clubs in the transfer window.

The money Newcastle United could save from axing Tiote might be enough to get them a small signing next summer or go towards maintenance, anything really where the money could be better spent.

Whether it's releasing him now or waiting until January, the club are wasting money on a player who can't offer anything to the squad.

The Ivorian is unsettled

Cheick Tiote has particularly failed to make any sort of impact for the Magpies in the last year or so. In January this year the Ivorian pushed for a transfer to the arising Chinese Super League but that move fell through.

He tried his luck again in the summer when photos appeared on social media of him arriving in Galatasaray.

Once again the midfielder returned to the north-east after reports suggested he had failed a medical with the Turkish club.

It's obvious that Tiote wants his last big pay day in Newcastle to edge him closer to retirement and some supporters feel it's for the best if he finds that money as soon as possible.

Manager Rafa Benitez has said those who do not wear the black and white with pride have to depart the club, which includes anyone who is unsettled, something which the former FC Twente man is.

With Cheick Tiote being unsettled, it is best for team morale for Newcastle to get rid of him.

Still lives on reputation

The 30-year-old became a fan favourite with the St James' Park faithful within his first season at the club.

He started almost every match in the 2010/11 season and scored that wonder goal against Arsenal in one of the top-flight's most memorable games of all time. It was then when supporters began to love Tiote.

As the years went past his reputation would grow by more as he continued to impress in the heart of midfield for Newcastle United.

Although it seems as if he may still be living off that reputation.

For a lot of professionals it was a dream to become a footballer and they work hard in training every day but from what I have read is that Tiote is the complete opposite.

He needs to realise that to get back into the squad he should work as hard as he use to upon his arrival in the north-east, but maybe this links in with the defensive midfielder's unsettlement.

Either way, Newcastle United need to axe Cheick Tiote as soon as possible.
