Coventry City look set to be rivalling Portsmouth in a move for highly rated Liverpool youngster Herbie Kane according to Portsmouth News.

The 20-year-old excelled on loan at Doncaster last season, and had even been linked with a loan move to several Championship clubs before the deadline shut last week.

Now, if he is to go on loan once more, it's looking likely it will be again in the third tier of English football.

Kane made 49 appearances and scored seven goals for Doncaster in the last campaign, and will be hoping he can continue to impress at this level.

With the youngster potentially set to arrive back in League One, we look at THREE reasons why a move to Coventry would make perfect sense....

The need for creativity to replace the departed Tom Bayliss

With Tom Bayliss leaving to Preston North End this summer, Mark Robins made it clear that Coventry were looking to strengthen their midfield.

Kane can provide that moment of magic, or a special pass that could separate a game. He did it on a number of occasions for Doncaster last season, and being at such a young age - his game will only continue to grow.

Bayliss has left a gap in this Coventry side, and Kane could be the man to fill it.

A partnership with Jamie Allen could be the key to promotion

Bringing in Jamie Allen this summer was a superb piece of business by Sky Blues boss Robins. The midfielder has excellent technical ability and a great passing range.

Kane and Allen could form quite the partnership. With the former showing glimpses of his technical side last season at Doncaster, it could be a joy to watch the both of them in the same midfield.

In terms of progressive passing, the both of them have the ability to play forward and as well as that don't shirk from a challenge when asked to

For a youngster, his build allows him to cope with League One demands

Coventry fans might be worried that Kane can't handle the rigours and demands of the league, well just like last season he showed that he is more than capable of playing every Saturday/Tuesday.

His physique allows him to be powerful when running and for a 20-year-old his fitness levels are second to none.

If he is to join the Sky Blues, it's a smart piece of business and one that could move Coventry closer to the Championship.
