Leeds United have reportedly registered their interest in signing Reading midfielder Andy Rinomhota according to Football Insider.

The 22-year-old has been hugely impressive since his breakthrough season last term with the Royals, and it seems as though these showings haven't gone unnoticed.

Rinomhota picked up Reading's Player of the Season last term, and Leeds are reportedly keeping a close eye on the midfielder heading into the January transfer window.

He has gone on to make 18 appearances so far this season for the Royals, and has been impressive alongside the likes of Ovie Ejaria and John Swift in the Reading midfield.

A move to Elland Road could be a tempting proposition for the youngster as well, with Leeds well in the hunt to win promotion to the Premier League.

Add to the fact that Rinomhota was born in Leeds, it seems as though it's a deal that could be ideal for both parties involved.

We take a look at THREE reasons why Leeds' reported interest in Rinomhota makes perfect sense.

He's got age on his side

It's easy to forget that Rinomhota is still only 22, with the midfielder slotting into the Reading midfielder without any problems.

He was previously plying his trade with AFC Porchester, and the rapid raise of the midfielder has been hugely impressive for Reading fans to witness.

He's got his best years ahead of him still, and Leeds will fancy their chances of helping the youngster reach his full potential if he signed for them.

He could be the ideal replacement for Kalvin Phillips if he departs

There have been previous reports that Kalvin Phillips could leave Leeds, with Manchester United reportedly interested in signing him according to The Sun.

Phillips has since signed a new deal, but his impressive recent showings won't have gone unnoticed, which could mean that he attracts further interest in the future.

Rinomhota currently plays in a similar role to that of Phillips, so Leeds would be making a smart move in signing the Reading midfielder, as it's a like for like replacement.

Rinomhota is proven at this level

There is always an element of risk when it comes to throwing in the club's academy players to the first team, but Rinomhota has hardly put a foot wrong since being in the senior squad.

He's shown composure on the ball, and has the energy to play his part at both ends of the pitch, which make him a good signing for most teams in the Championship.

Leeds could certainly benefit from having players that provide strength in depth for the remainder of this year's campaign, and Rinomhota would definitely provide Marcelo Bielsa with that.
