As the dust begins to settle on the season gone by, Leeds United and their focus has shifted to the summer’s transfer window, as the club look to challenge for promotion once more and end their wait for a Premier League return.

Leeds went close last season under Marcelo Bielsa, but ultimately didn’t have the legs to get over the line.

Now, Bielsa is looking to strengthen his playing squad, with a big focus on improving the club’s options on the wing.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are on to Helder Costa at Wolves, with Bielsa hoping to secure a loan agreement for the 25-year-old.

Costa is now on the fringe at Premier League Wolves, but he’s still a player that could bring a lot to the Leeds side.

Here, we take a look at THREE reasons why signing him is a no-brainer for the Yorkshire side…

Leeds need more options on the wing

This is the obvious place to start, with Leeds only having Jack Clarke, Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski as recognised wingers.

Jack Harrison might well return on loan, but there is a need for more heading into next season.

Bielsa wanted Dan James last January and now he wants Costa, so there is a clear emphasis on improving the options out wide.

If Leeds are to go the distance next year, they need more variety from the flanks, which Costa gives them.

He’s been there and done it in the Championship

Whilst Costa didn’t have a big impact in the Premier League last season, he impressed for Wolves in the Championship.

15 goals and 14 assists over two seasons is impressive, with Costa helping Nuno Santo’s side to promotion in 2017/18.

Yes, other players had a bigger impact that year, but he was still a part of the squad and has promotion on his CV.

That experience is massive.

It is what Bielsa wants

Back in January when Leeds missed out on James, Bielsa played things down, but deep down you’ve got to imagine he was fuming.

He wanted one outfield player adding to his squad and Leeds didn’t deliver on his minimal demands.

The Argentine wants wingers and Leeds need to keep him sweet after he agreed to a second year at the club.

If Costa is the man he wants, Leeds have to move mountains to get him.
