Leeds United star Pontus Jansson has revealed he could have left the club this summer, with strong interest from Russian side Krasnodar.

Despite the financial package on offer and the lure of top flight football, Jansson opted to stay at Elland Road, citing several reasons for the decision. he told the Swedish news outlet Fotbollskanalen:

“It just did not feel right. I’ll be a dad in a month so I weighed it all up. Clearly there was a lot of money and I could have secured my future, but the sports team with Leeds and Bielsa weighed over it. But it was not an easy decision. Krasnodar wanted to replace ‘Gran’ with me. It was very close, I thought about it, but I did not feel right. I wanted to finish with Leeds. I had a heavy season with the team last year and I didn’t want to finish the love like that.”

Jansson is a hugely popular figure at Elland Road and these latest comments will only accentuate that popularity.

There's several reasons why Leeds fans should be delighted with his comments, with FLW picking these three as the most significant.

He's cited a desire to 'finish at Leeds' which is surely an indication he wants to finish the job of promotion.

There's seemingly a belief that they'll be in and around the promotion race this season and he wants to be a part of it. Coming from inside the camp, that is a big deal.

There was clearly a good financial offer from the Russians, but it seems he isn't motivated by the money at all.

That is a big positive for Leeds fans, to hear that a player is driven by the right reasons, not the wrong ones.

As a new dad he could have pocketed the money and ran, but that wasn't in his thoughts at all.

His belief in the manager shines through early on in his statement. The team and manager 'over weighed' the lure of money and security.

He's clearly bought into the club's ethos and direction and this is a clear sign of what they feel they can achieve, marching on together.
