Luton Town have confirmed that they have signed Leeds United midfielder Eunan O'Kane on an 18-month loan.

O'Kane had previously been on loan with the Hatters, but had his loan spell cut short after suffering a double leg break early into his time with the club.

The midfielder has struggled for game time since returning from that injury, and hasn't made an appearance for Marcelo Bielsa's side at all this season.

His last outing in a Leeds shirt was in the 2017/18 season, so it seems as though his days with the Yorkshire-based club are numbered.

The Whites are currently sat top of the Championship table, and will be hoping they can make a long-awaited return to the Premier League this term.

We look at THREE reasons why O'Kane's temporary departure from Elland Road makes perfect sense for Leeds United.

O'Kane isn't part of Marcelo Bielsa's plans.

O'Kane is yet to make an appearance for Leeds' first team this season, which won't come as a surprise to many.

Marcelo Bielsa already has stronger options in midfield with the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Jamie Shackleton and Mateusz Klich all ahead of the Irishman in the pecking order at Elland Road.

So, for Leeds to be able to find O'Kane a temporary move away from them for the remainder of the season, is a smart move by the club.

It means that he could increase his transfer valuation away from Elland Road, and Leeds could be tempted to cash in on him if he does just that with Luton this season.

The midfielder will be eager to prove a point out on loan.

O'Kane hasn't had much luck with injuries in recent seasons, and he'll be hoping that this second loan spell with Luton Town can be somewhat of a fresh start for the midfielder.

If he is going to have any sort of future with Leeds United, then he needs to perform to a high standard on a consistent basis in the second half of this year's campaign.

He'll be eager to prove a point to Marcelo Bielsa as well, with the Leeds boss freezing him out of the first team picture since he returned from injury.

If he can impress out on loan this term, then he could be thrown a lifeline by the Argentine in the future.

Leeds aren't covering the majority of O'Kane's wages in the loan spell.

Football Insider have revealed that Luton Town are covering 'a significant portion' of O'Kane's wages whilst he is on loan with them, which will be pleasing to hear for the Elland Road faithful.

This means that it frees up some money for any potential late incomings at Leeds United, who could be tempted to make a late dip into the transfer market, with Deadline Day approaching.

With Luton covering the majority of his wages, it's a win-win situation for Marcelo Bielsa, as if O'Kane struggles to perform to a high standard, then Leeds won't be missing out financially on an underperforming player.
