Leeds United will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table this weekend, as Marcelo Bielsa's men prepare to travel to Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

The Whites go into the fixture on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Stoke City, where Bielsa's men succumbed to their third defeat in their last four league outings.

It's been an impressive season on the whole for United - Bielsa has breathed new life into Elland Road with his attractive brand of football and refreshing footballing philosophy.

But if any football fan knows about the saying 'it's not over until the fat lady sings', it's Leeds fans. Over the last few years, they have found themselves in very promising league positions at the halfway stage of the campaign, only to throw it away and go back to square one at the end of it.

With that being said, here, we take a look at THREE reasons why Leeds fans shouldn't plan for the Premier League just yet...

The teams below them are still on fire

After three defeats in their last four games, Leeds' lead at the top of the table has been closed to just one point, with third placed West Brom sitting only four points below them.

Norwich have endured an extraordinary season, and never look like losing at home, whilst Albion will also have that added bonus, knowing that they are the top goalscorers in the division.

Sheffield United are only four points off Leeds too, a team who knows no boundaries. If Leeds slip up, the teams below will make them pay.

They still have some tough games to come

Over the course of the next few weeks, Leeds have to face both Norwich and West Brom at home, which are arguably going to turn out to be the biggest games in the Whites' recent history.

Of course, you'd back Leeds to win at home in front of a boisterous Elland Road crowd, but this is the Championship, and anything can happen.

If they lose against the Canaries and the Baggies, then all of a sudden, Leeds have slipped out of the top two and into the play-off positions. Bielsa's men will have to become the chasers rather than the ones being chased.

Their squad depth is still fairly average

Leeds have been incredibly unlucky with injuries this season, and they have really halted their progress at the top of the table.

Summer signing Patrick Bamford has barely featured for the Whites, whilst the likes of Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi, three key players in the heart of defence, have all been missing for lengthy spells.

Bielsa's squad depth isn't the greatest by any means, with a host of academy players named on the bench due to a hefty injury list. They need reinforcements in January if they are to withstand the business end of the season.
