Marcelo Bielsa oversaw an impressive Leeds United performance on Friday evening, with the Whites sweeping West Bromwich Albion aside at Elland Road.

Leeds were 4-0 winners against their promotion rivals, sending out a real statement to the Championship with the manner of their performance.

And, it was the talk of the division over the course of the weekend, with a number of pundits offering their thoughts on Leeds.

Amongst those was former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal, who offered some interesting thoughts when speaking live on Sky Sports on Monday evening.

“When you win these kinds of game 4-0, of course, the motivation is more high and high,” he stated.

“It will be hard. This competition is very strange so this is why it’s so difficult. It’s a marathon. Sometimes, it’s now a question of producing one very good result, it’s a question of your consistency.

“Sometimes a team can win 4-0 but after they can lose two games against the team from the bottom. This competition is like that.”

Whilst Leeds will head to Bristol City this Saturday full of confidence, this type of warning will be at the back of their mind – this is the Championship, expect the unexpected.

Here at FLW, we look at three reasons why they must respect Carvalhal’s warning…

[snack_break title="His experience"]

Carvalhal had a successful spell in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday, with his side competing for promotion at the time.

He built up plenty of experience of what the Championship can throw at you, from the high of reaching the play-off final, to the low of sitting mid-table and losing his job.

He knows exactly what the division is all about.

The win over West Brom was impressive, but as impressive as it was, Leeds were woeful just three days earlier at QPR.

Bielsa’s side might’ve bossed possession at Loftus Road, but they were toothless in attack.

It was a surprise result and another could be just around the corner.

[snack_break title="Bristol City and Reading’s quality"]

These are Leeds’ next two away games and they come in the space of four days.

Bristol City are play-off contenders and will offer Leeds a stern test, whilst Reading are fighting for their lives at the foot of the table.

On paper, Leeds should beat Reading and be competitive against Bristol City, but again, this is the Championship and two defeats wouldn’t be the surprise of the season.
