Whilst Barnsley were registering a fine 4-1 win at Gillingham this weekend, keeping up the pressure on Luton Town at the top of the table, they suffered a seemingly significant setback.

In the final stages of the game, leading scorer Kieffer Moore was involved in a collision with Gabriel Zakuani. His treatment lasted ten minutes until he was stretchered off to hospital amid serious concerns over his well-being.

After spending a night in hospital he was released on Sunday, although it is unlikely he'll feature this weekend against Wycombe Wanderers. The length of his lay off is still open for debate, but whether Barnsley will miss him as much as they fear is another question.

It's not that he's a bit-part player this season, far from it. Moore has been excellent for the Tykes, scoring 16 times in 27 League One matches. His goals have undoubtedly been part of the reason they ascended the division so quickly, but will they now fall away because he's out?

FLW don't think so. Here's THREE reasons why his lay off won't be catastrophic for Daniel Stendel's side...

Jacob Brown

Jacob Brown has been one of the understated players at Oakwell, to a degree. Whilst regulars will see his attributes and goals, those looking on from outside the club will recognise the Moore input, but not so much that of the 20-year-old.

He's emerged this season as a real exciting talent, similar in many respects to Josh Maja, only his route to the first team has been blocked by the excellent Moore. He'll likely get a chance alongside Woodrow now and if he lives up to his promise, he could be a big player.

Cauley Woodrow

Woodrow is an exciting forward, but his efforts have also been overshadowed by Moore. He only returned from injury in November, which is why he's 'only' got 11 goals and not the 16 that Moore has bagged.

He's going to be able to take the responsibility for scoring off the shoulders of the injured Moore and will step up to the plate with ease.

Adaptable side

Barnsley have adapted all season, losing Brad Potts and George Moncur, covering the Woodrow injury and even losing Tom Bradshaw early doors.

They're a resilient side who have a great set of players who can adapt to a situation, rather than react to it. They'll be fine, as long as Moore's lay off isn't as long as first thought.

With Wycombe and Burton up next at Oakwell, Moore could rest easy for two games knowing his side should pick up six points.
