Leeds United are chasing Bristol City's 23-year old winger Callum O'Dowda, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

They're in the market for a winger this January and have so far not made any significant progress with their key targets. O'Dowda is a former teammate of Kemar Roofe, the two having played together at Oxford United.

He's been in and out of the Robins' side this season, notching 12 starts and a further ten outings from the bench. He's still highly rated at Ashton Gate, despite his sporadic football.

O'Dowda is a Republic of Ireland international with 15 caps to his name and despite not playing as regularly as some, he's developing fast and is clearly one for the future as much as for this moment in time.

There's plenty of reasons this would be a great move for Leeds and O'Dowda, but he's three reasons it's a great idea for Bielsa to snare the wide man.

Squad Depth

Leeds need depth. there's no doubt at all about that. They're short on numbers and have been too reliant on their Under 23 players.

O'Dowda is an established professional with international experience as well as Championship games under his belt. He's exactly what the squad needs.

Roofe History

That history with Kemar Roofe could be really important for the Whites. He knows their front man from their time at Oxford and will understand his game.

Those links are vastly under estimated by fans, knowing someone's game is a big bonus. Leeds could get even more out of their front man.

Development Potential

He's 23, already an international and clearly an exciting player. Investing in him now could reap huge rewards going forward. Look at Bradley Dack for instance, he's a player Blackburn paid a decent fee for, but whose value has shot up.

O'Dowda has that potential, although he'd cost significantly more than Dack did.
