Hull City are quickly becoming play-off contenders after securing their third straight victory with the impressive 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

On-loan Everton winger Josh Bowler marked his second league start for the Tigers by opening the scoring within the first 10 minutes at Craven Cottage and it wouldn't be surprising to see the 21-year old start against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

It was revealed on Tuesday that written into Bowler's loan agreement was a buy clause of just £5M for the winger should City look to offer to make his stay at the KCOM stadium a permanent one.

In today's market £5M for a highly rated Premier League youngster could be seen by many as a bargain and with increasing speculation over the future of fellow winger Jarrod Bowen, could be one City look to take advantage of.

Here we take a look at three reasons why Hull City would be foolish not to activate the £5m clause...

A natural replacement to Jarrod Bowen?

There is no doubt how pivotal Jarrod Bowen has been in Hull climbing up the table this season.

The 22-year old has scored nine goals for the Tigers so far this term and his impressive performances have led to speculation linking him away from the KCOM Stadium in January.

Whilst a move to fellow Championship side seems unlikely, a number of Premier League clubs could take an interest in the winger.

In September it was reported that Newcastle United were monitoring Bowen's situation at City, with the winger yet to sign an extension to his contract which expires next summer.

Bowler seems to posses similar traits to Bowen, with strong pace and showing on Saturday an eye for goal.

Should Bowen leave the KCOM, Bowler would be one to perfectly fill the void left by him, and with a full season at City already under his belt could be seen as favourable choice.

£5m could turn out to be a bargain for City

In a time of over-inflated transfer fees, £5m for a young Premier League player could be seen as a bargain and with City lacking financial muscle may be a great way to get a talented player for a small fee.

Championship clubs have paid higher fees for wingers in the last few seasons with Derby County paying £7m for Tom Lawrence in 2017 and Leeds United will pay Wolves £15m at the end of the season for Helder Costa.

City would be getting a player they already know from this season and would show a level of pragmatism should they pull of the transfer.

Continuity for Grant McCann

City boss Grant McCann praised Bowler after his performance at Fulham saying: "He’s waited patiently for his opportunity over the last two games and he’s taken it. He’s done really well."

The permanent addition of Bowler would allow McCann some continuity in his squad going into next season.

Bowler will no doubt make more starts for City this season and as he adapts to McCann's style of play could become a key part to City's plans for next season.

If he continues to impress than City should no doubt opt to bring him in on a permanent deal rather than look at other options.
