Huddersfield Town are flying under Danny Cowley at this moment in time, moving clear of the Championship’s relegation zone and finding themselves on an unbeaten run stretching back to their loss at West Bromwich Albion.

Key to that revival has been Karlan Grant, with the striker in fine form all season, even when the side were struggling under Jan Siewert.

Grant has nine goals in 15 Championship appearances, including the winner on Saturday as Town beat Brentford 1-0 at Griffin Park.

And, the 22-year-old is on the transfer radar of Wolves, with a report in the print edition of The Sun (03/11, page 61), linking the Premier League side with a move.

Given Grant’s form, transfer speculation is expected, but Huddersfield can’t afford to lose him.

Here, we break down THREE reasons why…

Town’s own ambition

Firstly, Huddersfield will have ambition under Danny Cowley, who is transforming their fortunes.

Already Town are looking less and less like relegation fodder, with Grant scoring the goals to drive them up the table.

Given the Championship’s competitiveness, promotion might well still be the aim this season.

Losing Grant almost destroys their ambition.

January a tough month to deal

January is an awful time to deal – most football clubs will tell you that.

Huddersfield might be able to drive Grant’s price up and make Wolves pay over the odds, but they would find themselves in a tough position trying to replace the 22-year-old.

Clubs knowing they have money naturally drives the price up, whilst their need to replace the prolific striker will do that further.

Sending a message to the fans

This brings us back to Town’s ambition, which has to be Premier League football.

The fans want to see that ambition and selling Grant doesn’t suggest to them that they want to return to the Premier League.

If you’re serious about climbing the Football League, you don’t sell the Karlan Grant of your side.

Huddersfield need to prove to their fans that they mean business.
