The 2015/2016 Sky Bet Championship campaign saw Leeds finish in mid-table, meaning that play-offs were never realistically in their sights.
Steve Evans' reign at Elland Road came to an end by the end of the campaign as Massimo Cellino brought in yet another new boss in Garry Monk.
However, football fans are aware of the coaching ability Monk holds and will therefore see Leeds as a bigger threat at the start of the 2016/17 season.
If, and it is a big if, Cellino allows Monk the time to adopt his own style of play as well as being able to win the fans over we could see Leeds flourish next season.
What is more, the transfer budget will be key to Monk's ability to take them to the next level. If he is allowed to spend big on bringing high quality to the club, there could be a push for the Premier League under Garry Monk.
Despite this, Leeds fans would be forgiven for failing to raise their hopes ahead of the new campaign. After all, Monk is Cellino's seventh boss in just over 2 years at the club and what is to say there will be any change for Monk?
The temperament of Cellino has understandably been criticized by Leeds fans since his appointment as owner in 2014 but the recruitment of Garry Monk could see a change in fortune for fans at Elland Road.
Football League World writer, Reece Chambers, identifies THREE reasons why Garry Monk will succeed at Leeds United next season......
Monk's knowledge of the Championship
As a player at Swansea City, Garry Monk was a talisman in the Welsh side's rise to the Premier League.
He played an integral role in his side's promotion to the Championship as they finished the season as league champions on a record 92 points.
The step up to the Championship proved no bother to Monk as he again helped his side to promotion - this time via Wembley in the play-off final vs Reading in 2011.
As well as this, Monk came on as a substitute to help Swansea win a major trophy in the shape of the Capital One Cup in 2013.
It is clear to see that the step up to higher levels of football didn't effect Monk as he helped Swansea evolve through the leagues. What is more, his leadership at the heart of their defence is something he has taken into his coaching. He is often heard on the touchline instructing his players at the top of his voice.
As a result, his knowledge and success in the Championship stands him in good stead for his time at Leeds as he has proved just how well he can perform in the league. The question is, will he be able to do that as a manager too?
Clear style of play
It is all well and good being able to perform as a player but becoming a manager at the top level is a totally story.
However, Monk has proved that he is able to adopt his own style of play to ensure that his teams are efficient and successful.
Much like the most of Swansea's teams in recent years, Monk promoted the importance of a passing style of play. Therefore, possession will most likely be a large part of his sides play next season.
What will impress Leeds fans most, though, is the fact that he has a clear philosophy behind his work - meaning that he could begin to build something at Leeds, if given the time of course!
Proven record at the highest level
That 'philosophy' that i previously mentioned is all well and good in theory but does it actually work? Well, according to the majority of this managerial spell at Swansea, yes!
His first full season in charge at Swansea saw him receive the Manager of the Month aware for August after a spell of good results - including the Swans' first ever league win at Old Trafford.
By the end of that 2014/15 campaign, they had totted up a record points tally for the club as well as finishing in 8th place.
So, yes, it seems philosophies can work under the right man. And, maybe Monk is the right man to do that. Certainly a lot of factors seem to be pushing him in the right direction so expect to see Leeds challenge for the play-offs next season if Monk is given the time in charge.
