Derby County endured a frustrating afternoon against Swansea on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw, with Martyn Waghorn missing a penalty.

Another negative was an injury picked up by Jayden Bogle, which forced the right-back off just nine minutes into the second half.

Whilst the extent of his ankle knock hasn't been determined, he left Pride Park in a protective boot and boss Phillip Cocu revealed he will miss tonight's League Cup tie against Scunthorpe as he awaits result of a scan.

Clearly, it doesn't sound promising and here we look at THREE reasons why losing the talented teenager for an extended period would be a significant blow for Cocu and the team...

He is a quality player

Firstly, Derby would be losing a very good player.

Bogle forced his way into the first-team last season under Frank Lampard as an 18-year-old and seriously improved as the season progressed, featuring in 43 games as the Rams went to Wembley.

So, despite his age, Bogle is a first-team regular and an easy pick for Cocu if he was fit.

He gives the team an attacking threat down the flanks

The new boss has a clear philosophy and way of playing, going with a 4-3-3 that requires a lot of attacking from the full-backs.

Bogle is perfect for Cocu's team as he loves to get forward, has real energy and adds a lot to the team in the final third.

Max Lowe, a left-back naturally, came on to replace him at the weekend and it disrupted the balance of the team and that is a problem for a side managed by the Dutchman that places a lot of importance on their raiding full-backs.

They lack senior cover right now

Following on from that, Derby don't really have a natural replacement to step in.

Andre Wisdom is out injured and he struggles in an attacking sense as a full-back anyway, whilst Lowe is left-footed. Another option would be Duane Holmes but he is still recovering from a thigh injury picked up over the summer.

That means it's fair to say Bogle's injury has come at the wrong time for Cocu and he will be desperately hoping it's nothing serious.
